How can you help?
Read the job descriptions and fill out the volunteer form below. On the week before the event, you will receive an email with more information and the location for the event.
Technicians: Provide Basic Technical Support and AdviceComputer technical support may include:
1. Hardware and software problem diagnosis 2. Installing and demonstrating software updates and trouble-shooting hardware problems 3. Installing and demonstrating anti-virus and privacy protection software 4. Performing simple repairs to existing personal computer equipment. 5. Operating system installs - Windows or Linux 6. Data recovery, email setup (outlook or web based) 7. Basic tutoring on how to operate OS and safe internet practices Senior technicians provide advice and supervision. Appointments are made prior to the event and provide more information about the types of problems you may need to solve. You will need to bring items that would help in the repair of PC's. For example: * tools such as screw drivers and needle nose pliers * install CDs (OSes, virus scanners, etc) * blank CDs * spare computer parts that you would like to donate (old HDs, power supplies, cables, etc) * Anything else you might need Monitors, keyboards and internet access will be available on site. |
Tutors: Provide Basic Computer Tutoring, Internet and Broadband Connection AdviceYou may not be a computer expert, but you can use Microsoft Office and know your way around the Internet. You will work with people one-on-one to show them useful Internet resources and help them find answers online. Training and all materials are provided.
Computer advice could be about: - How to select an Internet provider and sign up for broadband at home - How to register for email - How to use Facebook - How to avoid computer viruses and online scams - How to use the Internet We also need volunteers who can greet and welcome people to the event and help them find the services they need. |
