Sherman Elementary School is a public school in the Marina District. Although the students have access to a full computer lab at school, their parents and caregivers may not be familiar with computers or the Internet. Many of the parents who are recent immigrants do not use technology in their everyday lives.
The school community wants all the families to use computers and the Internet to improve academic performance, communicate with school staff and learn about online resources which can make their everyday lives easier.
You will work one-on-one with adults with various levels of computer experience at one of the monthly computer advice sessions win the school computer lab. Topics will be determined by the parents and their interests. Possible topics include Internet safety, child and family support information, job search and casual labor resources, how to set up an email account, online GED or other classes, Internet safety, how to make a simple flyer, and additional training opportunities.
No previous teaching or training experience is necessary, just patience and a friendly attitude.
